A Sacred Pause — Reflecting Together on Good Friday

Dear Church Family,

As we gather in this space, our hearts and minds turn toward Good Friday—a day of profound sorrow, unwavering love, and life-changing sacrifice. On this sacred occasion, we’re invited into the shadowed stillness where heaven grieved, and we commemorate the moments when our Savior hung on the cross for us.

Good Friday is the solemn remembrance of Jesus’ crucifixion and death at Calvary—a sacrifice once and for all that redeems us from sin. It’s also marked by long-held traditions: the meditative Stations of the Cross, the Three Hours’ Devotion from noon to 3 p.m., candlelight services, and quiet vigils that lead us from grief into glory.

Let’s reflect together:

  • What part of the story of Christ’s passion moves you most deeply?

  • Is there a verse, image, or moment—perhaps the veil tearing, the crown of thorns, or the final words from the cross—that captures your heart in fresh ways?

  • How does God meet you in the silence, sorrow, or stillness of this day?

One way to honor this day at home or in church is to set aside time for prayer and Scripture. You might begin with lit candles and read passages that recount the events of the crucifixion. After each reading, extinguish a candle, allowing darkness to deepen around you as a reflection of the weight of the moment. When all is still and quiet, linger in silence, letting your heart rest at the foot of the cross.
